Pulling into the station

July 06, 2004

The weekend was long, but good. Hot as hell, but good.

On Friday, I took off at about 10:45 and made excellent time. I got hit in Redding, but it's okay - Little Red's trunk is a little dented, but other than that, we're both fine. I pulled into the driveway about two seconds after the Colorado group pulled in. Damn. There were 22 people there this weekend, as estimated, but only 4 dogs. Well, 3 and a half. Schnitzel doesn't count as a whole dog...

Jenn and I saw "Dodgeball" at the theater. It was $4.75. Matinee. $5.75 regular. Makes you sick, doesn't it? Here we are paying $7 for matinees and almost $10 for regular.

Someone gave the kids water balloons. But only if they promised to ambush and attack Uncle Steve. Which they did. It was great. Kaylah walked up with her hands behind her back, acting all cute and innocent and then *WHAM!* smacks him with a water balloon. Then Gina, Corinne, and Lacey let theirs fly. Julie was too scared to chuck hers so she just set it down on the ground and ran for cover. We watched from the safety of the porch, but I caught some of it on camera. Corinne got hit square in the back but managed to chuck one last balloon right at his shoulder, splashing water all over his face, too.

Of course, ten minutes later, everyone was bone dry again. It was a little warm out there. (We ate dinner outside at 6 and it was 97 and dropping.) When I hit Redding yesterday at about 11:30, it was 107. Thank GOD for AC in Little Red. She chugged hard the whole way home, but we stayed cool.

And now, time for the picutres that not doubt have made my layout all jooky.

Seeing how Weaverville was a gold mining town back in the day, it seems fitting that Kaylah went digging for a little gold of her own. At least she wasn't flicking them this time.

My mom said I looked like a Dr Seuss creature. Pssssssh whatever. I wore those pom-pom things all freakin' day. Did anyone else have them? Um, no.

The two sisters - in a brief moment of cease-fire. This was at this bitchin' coffee place about 25 miles out of town. The river is just beyond that railing there. You can watch the rafters go by while you sip your double espresso and munch on biscotti. Yeah, we were roughing it alright.

On the 4th itself, it was hot. H-O-T. So we piled everyone into the vans and headed off to the swimmin' hole. Lissa here was not fooled by our "it's not THAT cold!" promises. She did eventually dunk in all the way to her neck and promptly shouted an obscenity at us. We ran for cover. (Lexi, Gina, Jake and I went in all the way.)

The rest of the pictures are HERE at my PhotoBucket site. (Under "4th of July". Duh.)
