Pulling into the station

January 09, 2005

Today was the dual birthday party for the nieces. One of the games we had was a scavenger hunt - just up the street and no more than 5 houses in from the main road. Easy peasy stuff. Big kids (Lexi's group) v Little kids (Kaylah's). I tagged along with the little kids group and took Cowboy for a walk. You know, because it's been raining and he hasn't been out since he's a wuss when it comes to the rain.
Anyways.
We're going along fine - we're down to needing only a ketchup packet. Lissa, her cousin, and I are standing on the sidewalk while the kids and Em ring the doorbell at this house. A kid, probably around 12 or so, opens the door and two big ass dogs come bounding out. Cowboy thinks this is just the greatest thing, um, EVER. Until the big black Rot chomps down (hard) on his back and picks him up. This dog would not let go, either. Poor Cowboy looked like a ragdoll in his mouth. The adults/owners came running out and finally we got the dogs pulled apart.
(The kids were all on the porch while all this was going on - all of them behaved very well, too. Good kids.) Limping and whimpering, we walked to the corner (that was the 5th-in house).
He's got some teeth scrapes on his back - three big pink ones - and we think his right butt-cheek/hip might be bruised. Other than that, he's good. Although, he did have to come home and take a bath because he shit himself when the big dog started really scaring him. Can't blame him for that one. He's currently being a lazy butt in front of the heater and hoping that someone will drop some food on the floor. You know, like normal.
(Mom did go back to the house and talked to the woman there. She apologized a lot and turns out, she was a nurse up at the clinic where Cowboy's vet is.)
How was your weekend?
